I’d been wishing, hoping and dreaming about rescue since I was a little girl.
manboy to rescue me from loneliness and to tell me that I matter.
- A ‘perfect’ best friend to validate and never disappoint.
- A diet pill, a self-help book, a support group to make me fit in and be normal.
I had been hoping for rescue from my imperfect, inadequate and insignificant self.
I wanted my knight in shining armor not just to save me but to show all those who thought of me as worthless that I matter. And that I matter to someone who matters.
Sweet friend, is this you, too?
For the Woman Waiting to Be Rescued
God created us to need and desire Him. This is where our deep longing to be important and seen comes from. He wants us to constantly seek Him.
Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! 1 Chronicles 16:11 (ESV)
But so many times for so many of us, we seek rescue from every place, but the One who has already saved us.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. – Colossians 1:13-14
What is the dominion of darkness? Sin. Life without God. Life without light. Life without hope and meaning. A life full of sin.
And He didn’t just rescue us and put us in an okay kind of place. Nope, He brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins!
Are you living as a saved woman?
Sometimes, I forget that I am already rescued and that I am free. I act as if I am still in chains. I’m like the Israelites, who have just been rescued from slavery, asking to go back for better food.
I need to look myself in the eye, grab my own chin and say, ‘There is NOTHING better than our salvation in Jesus. There is NOTHING on Earth that will satisfy you like God. You matter because God says so; NOTHING here can change that.’
There is not a bigger or better rescue than the one that saved us from darkness and brought us into His family. I’m working on grasping that statement and living it out. And I pray the same revelation for you, too!
