I want to let you in on my favorite way to silence my insecurities. Why, you ask? Because there’s not a single one us that isn’t insecure about something, whether it be. . .
- our looks
- our voice
- our education
- our social skills
- our mental health
- our sins
- our career
- our marriage
- our parenting skills (or lack thereof)
Blarg! So many insecurities, so little time!
But, we know where to take our fears, our doubt, and our guilt, right? We take it to the cross, and we use God’s Word to comfort, correct, and move us forward in grace.
And man, the Bible is filled with so many powerful verses to minister to our hearts.
And I’ve found one power-packing, doubt-silencing, awe-inducing passage that quiets my heart and points me back to God no matter the reason for my insecurities. It sums up God’s love in less than 50 words!

The One Bible Passage to Silence Your Insecurities
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39
Why Romans 8:38 & 39?
These verses point to God and what God has done for us. Nowhere in these two verses is there a command to do more or be better. (Friend, when I’m feeling worthless, the last thing I want is to meditate on a verse reminding me of all the ways I’ve failed.) But this verse is God telling us that there is nothing that can stop His love for us. And that love? It was made perfect in Christ Jesus!
Let’s break this verse down a little bit to get more of the impact.
For I am convinced nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus!
Are you, friend? Are you convinced that there is nothing that can separate you from Christ Jesus? Whether you are or not at that moment, there is power in proclaiming this Truth over your life.
Tell your fears and your insecurities the bold Truth of God’s love. Keep saying it until it’s etched into your heart and mind.
that neither death nor life
Not even death — the ultimate separation from the world — can separate you from God’s love!
neither angels nor demons
Good or bad spiritual beings — they’ve got nothing on God’s love. Those physical demons in your life? Yeah, they can’t separate you from God either.
neither the present or the future
This moment right here and ten years from now — all of it is covered in God’s love. You don’t have to worry about tomorrow, friend, you are loved.
nor any powers
It doesn’t matter who’s the president, if your boss likes you, if a tornado comes and sweeps away all you have. You are loved.
neither height nor depth
There is nowhere you can go that God’s love isn’t already there. You can be in the midst of the most terrible, awful, horrible moment of your life. You can have every reason to be insecure or doubt your worth. But God. . .His love is still right there.
nor anything else in all creation
And if all of those other conditions don’t satisfy the one that is making you insecure, God just goes ahead and tells us that there is NOTHING that can make Him stop loving us. Nothing, friend. Not your looks, not your failure or your inadequacies
So what now?
If you want to claim this passage over your life, the first step is to memorize it. Copy it down. Put it where you’ll remember to recite it. Do whatever it takes to etch this verse on your heart.
I’m a big fan of memorizing Bible verses through song. And it just so happens that Romans 8:38-39 is number 6 on Seeds of Courage. If you are an Amazon Prime member you can stream this CD for free! That’s what my family does.
Write this verse on your heart, friend. And then, go tell your insecurities, tell your fears, your doubts, and your shame that they have absolutely nothing on the all-encompassing, never-ending love of God in Christ Jesus. You are convinced! Right?
